“Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
Treating others the way you want to be treated. In life we see many sides of the human race and the different personalities that each person can have. We see great acts of kindness to disgusting behaviour that leave us questioning people’s humanity. We never seem to win in this battle with ourselves as well as each other.
Today I witness one of those moments where it has restored my belief in humanity and in people in general. While lining up to order some lunch at a local cafe I watched as a commotion started as a man had forgotten his wallet after having his meal and has no means to pay. I was around 4th from the front and was behind another young woman and also a mother and her young child. The gentleman looked well off, a typical business man. A nice suit, expensive watch and clean shoes. Our mother, however, looked less fortunate. She looked tired and at her wits end as she tried to quiet down her excited child as she babbled away in her arms.
While the gentleman was busy looking for his wallet he let her order. After ordering her meal I heard her say to the young lady at the till “add his order on to mine as well please. I will pay for it all”. Without even letting him know, the mother had paid for his meal and had walked off to sit down. To say that he was surprised was an understatement. Without a word he walked out of the cafe without saying anything to anyone.
After I ordered I found a table next to our mother who was busy trying to still settle the bubbling child when the gentleman once again reentered the cafe. He walked right up to the mother and handed her an envelope. “Thank you” was all he simply said and started to walk off. She took a quick look into it with wonderment when she yelled out to him “Im sorry but this is way too much. There is at least 4 times as much in here than what I paid your lunch”. He just smiled at her and replied “life gives you humbling blessing and if you can, you need to repay those who have shown you” with those words he walked out.
I do not know about you but I felt like this one of those times where I a simple act can have different outcomes. She did not have to pay his meal, something could have been done. He did not have to pay her back as much as he did. Life is a whole cycle where what goes around does come back around. It may not be straight away like the situation today but it will come around. A valuable lesson was learnt today in a setting that was least expected. It does show you how life’s lessons can be learnt in the most unsuspecting time and place.
